• Who we are

Myra is the jewelry brand that allows blind and visually impaired people to find work in the field of jewelry design. To do this, we have revised the process of creating jewelry that no longer starts from the design but from the modeling of a malleable paste. The unique piece produced by hand is scanned, 3D printed and finished by hand.

We have been defined as "the inclusive jewelry brand that revolutionizes tactile creativity" by Il Sole 24 Ore and " proof of how technology and creative genius can be at the service of people's lives " by Maker Faire Rome, the European innovation fair.

  • Our mission

The idea for Myra Lab was born during the Master in Non Profit and Social Enterprise at Frollaup , a course that provided us with the skills needed to transform innovative ideas into entrepreneurial realities with a high social impact.

According to a 2020 study, on average 75% of blind people in Europe are without paid work. Italy ranks second in unemployment rate with 181,385 blind people unemployed. You can read the article that deals with this topic here .

  • The creative process

“Is beauty perceived only with the eyes?...
If even the blind appreciate beauty, then there are other ways to access art.
And why shouldn’t they also apply to those who can see?”
    Aldo Grassini

Have you ever wondered if beauty can be perceived only with the eyes?
This question challenges our most deeply held beliefs: what other ways of accessing art might there be? And how might they be exploited? These questions do not have an immediate answer but represent a real journey of discovery and reflection. Personally, they have pushed me to question the true nature of aesthetic experience and the role of the senses in our perception of art.

For those who see, the world manifests itself through shapes, colors, and faces. But for those who cannot see, the absence of sight does not mean the absence of images .

For those who cannot see, the world comes to life through touch, hearing, and the other senses.

In particular, the hands are the first and best substitutes for sight. According to a study published in the Journal of Neuroscience, people who are blind from birth are able to acquire tactile information faster
    of people without visual impairment.

For those who cannot see, the world becomes a place where images are not defined by color or the distinction of figures, but take on a broader and more multifaceted dimension.

We have always thought of beauty as a concept inseparably linked to
sight. But what if beauty were nothing more than an emotion? What if the eyes were just one of the many means through which to perceive this beauty, just like the
hands for blind people? Different starting points that arrive at the same conclusion: a
generate that emotion that makes us think “beautiful!”.

Art then becomes a universal language that can be understood, appreciated and created by everyone, regardless of their sensory capabilities. In fact, numerous studies have shown that blind people develop a
highly refined tactile ability, which allows them to create art by fully expressing their creativity.

  • Our jewels

Using their hands, blind and visually impaired craftsmen shape easily malleable materials into jewelry components. They may use molds or work the material directly freehand, depending on the desired design.

In this process, the sense of touch plays a fundamental role, allowing blind people to perceive the shape, consistency, texture and quality of the materials they are manipulating, and to shape them.

Our goal is to rethink the concept of beauty, making each jewel something more than a simple ornament.

It becomes a tactile work of art, that is, an art form designed to be appreciated through the sense of touch rather than through sight.

It becomes an experience that enriches our understanding of the world and allows us to grasp everyday objects in new and unexplored ways.

We focus on the value of each phase of the creation of the jewel, from design to realization. For us, the process is as important as the final result, because it represents the journey of growth and overcoming the barriers of each person involved.
