How 45 minutes can change your day
Share
Do you ever feel tense even when you should be relaxing?
Maybe you're on the couch, watching a show or scrolling through social media, yet your body remains tense. As if it can't truly "switch off." This happens more often than we think.
We are used to believing that simply stopping is enough to feel better. But the truth is, stress doesn't disappear just because we stop.
The brain doesn't need to be paused, but rather brought to a different frequency.
And this is where something we often underestimate comes into play: creating.
Stress isn't just in your head
Even if we don't always realize it, stress is a physical phenomenon. It's linked, among other things, to cortisol, a hormone the body produces when it's in a state of alert.
The problem isn't cortisol itself: it's fundamental for facing challenges. But when it remains high for too long, the body stays in continuous tension. The result? Fatigue, irritability, difficulty truly relaxing, even during breaks.
The good news is that there's a natural way to lower this level. And it's not an abstract idea, but something that has been observed and measured.
The American Art Therapy Association study
A study published by the American Art Therapy Association showed that 45 minutes of creative activity can produce a real physiological change.
In 2016, a group of participants took part in a free creation session. Before and after the activity, researchers measured cortisol levels.
The results were clear:
-
about 75% of people showed a significant reduction in stress after just one session;
- no artistic skills were necessary: the benefits were similar for beginners and experts;
- the effect was immediate, noticeable from the very first encounter with creative activity.
This tells us something important: the well-being associated with creation is not something that comes with time, but can be activated immediately.
When you enter the Flow State
During those 45 minutes, many people described a particular sensation: deep concentration, calm, presence. This is what we call the Flow State.
Hands work, attention shifts to the material, and everything else (notifications, thoughts, urgencies) loses its weight.
Often the process starts with a small initial difficulty, like shaping a material or choosing a detail, and arrives at a final solution that provides a sense of satisfaction and progress.
Creating isn't just making something with your hands. It's learning something about yourself, feeling that you're evolving, capable, free to experiment.
Myra Lab: a space to truly slow down
At Myra Lab, we start precisely from this idea. Our workshops are not just jewelry courses, but spaces where you can genuinely slow down.
Here you can sit down, touch cold materials, get your hands dirty, and focus on one gesture at a time. No prior experience is necessary. As research shows, what matters is the process, not the perfect outcome.
An hour spent creating can transform into something concrete: an object that tells the story of the time you allowed yourself.
Sometimes, you don't need to escape stress. You just need to stop in the right way, use your hands, and let the rest wait.
And while you do it, without even realizing it, you are taking care of yourself.
